FCCMP COVID-19 Response

UPDATE 05/04/20

#GivingTuesdayNow is on May 5th, 2020. While this event is typically held online in the fall around the time of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the COVID-19 pandemic and its new challenges has necessitated moving the date up to during our current urgent times. Please visit our Donation page to find out how you can help. See our latest blog post for summarized points on how we continue to operate during the pandemic, thanks to your generous donations.

UPDATE 04/29/20

We continue to follow safety procedures in relation to COVID-19 while also continuing our mission to feed our neighbors. We are also participating in Giving Tuesday Now this year on May 5th (usually held in the fall following Black Friday and Cyber Monday) – read more details on our Donate page. We have been fortunate in receiving continued donations, and we will require your help so that we do not waver in our mission. We thank you for your continued or future donations!

Franklin County Community Meals Program is committed to our mission to work in partnership with the community to alleviate hunger even during the current coronavirus crisis.

We plan to continue our free community meals in Turners Falls on Mondays, in Greenfield on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and in Orange on Thursdays. Because of our concern for the health and well-being of our meal partners, our meal guests, our volunteers and our staff, starting on Monday March 16 we will change our model of dinner service. We will provide bagged meals of non-perishable food — thank goodness for our recent collection by the Brown Bag Brigade!! FCCMP staff will stand outside our meal sites from 5:00 to 5:30 to hand bags to guest patrons for them to take away.

At our Turners Falls site we will distribute meals in front of our Lady of Peace Church. At our Greenfield meal site we will distribute meals from the driveway between the Second Congregational Church and Greenfield Town Hall. At our Orange meal site we will distribute meals from the Armory parking lot. This will be our model for the month of March and longer if need be.

The Orange Food Pantry will remain open to the public on Thursdays from 10:00 to 3:00. We intend to serve pantry guests by having them stay in their cars and “drive through” to receive food. The specifics for this model of service are under consideration and we appreciate your patience as we work out the details.

Thank you to the many serving groups which provide meals to our meal sites and we look forward to working with you in the kitchens and dining rooms of our meal sites as soon as we can.

Please stay safe and healthy,

Andrea Leibson, FCCMP executive director
