Bonus Bag Brigade 2023
Sunday, Feb 26, 4-6pm
Second Congregational Church, 16 Court Square, Greenfield MA
Read the recent article in the Recorder about this year’s Bonus Bag Brigade!
Hello! It’s February, and that means that we are gearing up for our annual Bonus Bag Brigade, previously known as the Brown Bag Brigade. Recently we had members and agencies from our community come forward and inform us that the term “brown bag” has racist and classist origins. Historically, it was a racist and colorist practice of comparing a person’s skin color to the color of a brown paper lunch bag. Those whose skin was darker than the bag would be denied privileges afforded to white people. FCCMP is committed to building a community based in dignity and belonging. Removing racist terms and encouraging inclusivity and respect are an important piece of ensuring ALL of our neighbors know that they belong and that their needs matter. The new name exemplifies what the event is really all about- providing bonus meals to our community meal site guests. Please refer to the new flier on the left, help us spread the word, and help us feed our neighbors!
To participate in this event, you can:
1.) Assemble and decorate at least 10 bonus bags and drop off at Second Congregational Church on Sunday, February 26th between 4-6 pm. Bring your leftover bonus bag groceries for us to combine with others!
2.) Click here to make a monetary donation that will be used to purchase bonus bag goods
3.) If you are representing a school or local organization and wish to donate a bulk amount of bonus bags, we encourage you to contact us directly at info@fccmp.org to receive totes and guidance for packing!
Thank you for your contributions! To share in the fun, let your neighbors know about our Bonus Bag Brigade by posting photos of your decorated bags, videos of you and your family packing them, a photo of your purchases, etc. to social media using the hashtag #BBB2023
